How to Toggle Between Apple Maps and Google Maps on iOS

Windows versus Apple, iOS versus Android – these fights between major corporations will continue for decades as it has been in the past. The one to emerge victorious in such a situation is the consumer, who not only has a variety of options to choose from but also premium services thrust upon them in an attempt to outdo the other. In this consumer-driven world, we get to experience the best of both the worlds whether the service is big or small.

Travelling has become a comfortable experience thanks to the wonders of satellite imaging and GPS maps. Here again, there is a difference in the navigation provided by Google Maps and Apple Maps. However, one can use either or both based on their preference. Google has an advantage over Apple Maps that you can easily pull up a location on the Google Maps. However, Apple Map’s CarPlay feature makes commuting a more pleasurable experience. Unfortunately, it is not easy to transfer a location from your Google Maps to your Apple Maps. Thus, you might have to make use of both the apps.

If you do happen to make use of both maps, here’s how you can switch between them in your iOS device.

Switching Between Apple Maps and Google Maps

The simplest way to toggle locations on your Apple and Google Maps is through an app called “Opener.”

It costs just $2 and is worth the investment. The app not only helps in sending locations across platforms but it can also be used for opening addresses or links from your browser directly in either of the map apps.

Using Opener

  1. Install the Opener app on your iOS device.

  2. Open the Apple Maps, enter the address, and choose the suggestion that matches the keyed in address.

  3. Tap on the “Share” button.

  4. Next, to the copy button, you will notice the Opener app icon, tap on it and select Google Maps as the destination.

  5. This will open the Google maps with the address keyed right in!

If you do not see the Opener app icon, you may have to swipe left and tap on the “More” icon. Enable Opener and try sharing the location once again.

Follow the same steps as outlined above if you wish to import an address from the Google Maps to the Apple Maps. You will find the “Share” option when you drag up the tray containing the information about the destination.

That’s it! You can now easily switch between the different navigation apps without having to worry about losing the destination location.
